Hi my Quarantine Queens – Nicole here, from Next by Nicole. PSA: SUMMER IS ONLY ONE MONTH AWAY! If you’ve ever experienced a true New England summer, you know why I’m unable to contain my excitement. We’ve been social distancing now for close to two months, and all of this time in the house has me daydreaming of beach days, late night bonfires, and the lobster rolls at Monahan’s Clam Shack. I can’t wait to ditch my warmer clothes for warmer months, and embrace all of the summer ‘fits that come along with that. Here are some of my favorite trends I’m noticing for the upcoming season.
tie dye
You’ve seen it all over social media recently – the DIY craze that’s taking households by storm. There’s something so lighthearted and nostalgic about tie dye, and this generation can’t seem to get enough of it. It’s relaxed, yet adds a burst of color and effortless design to any piece. For those of us not brave enough to try to make it at home (literally me) this chic, ready to wear romper is waiting!
GAUZE
I’ve tried for so long to like linen, and I really can’t. It’s a casual fabric pretending to be elevated, and it wrinkles way too easily. Enter, gauze. This is the boho fabric we’ve all been waiting for. It’s flowy, fabulous, and super lightweight – making it perfect for tropical vacations and summer days. I also love how it’s supposed to look lived-in and wrinkled. These pants are a dream and can easily take you from day to night.
hook & eye finishes
Inspired by the corsets of old, this detailing is both feminine and fierce. The structure of garments with these finishes hug curves in all the right places, and adds a unique little styling detail to any look. This top is the perfect example. The print is so sweet and dainty (very Little House on the Prairie), yet the bodice is beyond sexy. It’s original and versatile – perfect for brunch with the girls or even date night.
OPEN KNITS
Last year tight crochet was all the rage, but this year we’re loving the laidback and beachy feel of open knit pieces. From beach bags to pants, there’s something for everyone. It’s practical for layering, but can also make a serious statement. This sweater can be a bikini coverup or worn over a bralette for a cute every day look.
LIGHT & AIRY SCENTS
Finally, while we’re getting ready to enter the warmer months, it’s time to introduce warmer scents into your life. Sun Saint literally cured my seasonal depression. It reminds me of the perfect summer day on the beach – with notes of salt, coconut, and lime. Bonus points for this brand keeping it cruelty and paraben free!
