Spotlight on BC Footwear

BC Footwear sandals and wedges

We are so excited to introduce you to our newest shoe line, BC Footwear!

I first came across BC Footwear because of Jillian Harris. She posted a blog on changes she is making in 2019 (read it here), and I stumbled across her talking about it on her Instagram story. One of her major changes for the year was to become more conscious of how she shopped, focusing on staple pieces she truly loved. She featured the Snack Bar Wedge, and it was love at first sight. Just like the name suggests, the style invoked poolside vibes and vacation style. We have been searching for the perfect shoe brand at Harper & Tucker to compliment our apparel lines, and the second I saw that wedge on Jillian's story, I knew I found it.

As I explored BC Footwear's Website, I fell in love with many more styles than just the Snack Bar Wedge. I immediately sent it over to Natalie (who also fell in love), and then hunted down the contact information so we could get the line into Harper & Tucker. We had been having trouble finding a brand with wide variety of styles that we loved (we wanted sandals, wedges, heels, booties, tall boots - every girl's styling needs). It's funny how sometimes things just fall into place - but clicking on that one shoe led us to find just the right brand to become Harper & Tucker's go-to footwear. And Jillian was right, it IS the perfect staple wedge.

The weirdest part of this story is that I just had this immediate intuition that the wedges were vegan suede before I even looked up BC Footwear. Jillian Harris is not fully vegan, but she does advocate for sustainability and plant-based living, so it wasn't a crazy conclusion to jump to. Sure enough, when I began researching BC, I discovered that they are a 100% vegan company. Coincidentally, veganism has been top of mind for me lately. I switched to all cruelty free beauty products in 2018, which led me to find so many products I loved more than what I had been using before. For nearly my whole life I have been on-and-off vegetarian. Over the last year, I have been slowly transitioning further by taking meat out of my diet entirely, cooking fully vegan at home, and choosing the plant based option dining out whenever I can. It's not something I talk about often, because I know it can be a touchy subject, plus let's be real - there are way more fun things to talk about (shoes being one of them!). But the truth is, I am an animal lover at heart, and I have realized that I am happiest and truest to myself without animal-derived products in my life.

Here's my personal goal: I'd like to do the least harm possible to animals and the planet, while finding the very best in style and beauty. I also love to support companies whose ethics and ideologies I identify with. BC Footwear makes that easy, and got me thinking about avoiding animal products not just in food and beauty, but also in fashion.

I promise, you won't be able to tell the difference between the vegan leather and suede and the real thing - they are more durable, sustainable, and are made without harming animals! These shoes may be vegan, and we LOVE that about them, but we picked them because we loved the styles better than any other shoe brand we have looked at (and believe me, we looked a lot). So it's a win-win, whether the ethics behind the brand matter to you or not!

Click here to shop our first delivery of BC! The wedges are not just cute, they are SO comfortable; both Natalie and I bought a pair for ourselves and are absolutely in love. I even introduced them to my mom who is also obsessed with her pair. I have my eye on the Woven Sandalnext, and have been putting off trying the Value Heel because I know I'm going to need those too. And don't worry boot lovers because, as we get closer to Fall, you'll be seeing two different styles of booties AND an over the knee boot. Swoon.

xo,

DW
