    FALL EDIT

  • Trend Report: Summer Gold

    July 21, 2020

As new collections arrive at the store, it is fun to see trends across different brands begin to emerge! I love seeing our edits from each of our brands come together on our racks to create a larger collection that is uniquely H&T. When these individual pieces hang side by side, we see color stories come to life, and often we find looks that mix pieces from different brands that are even more interesting than a full look by just one designer. This summer, we have been basking in the shades of gold that have brighten our store. I am loving the variety of these golden hues - from sandy tans, to bright sunshine yellows, to rich mustards, to peachy oranges - each one is prettier than the next!

Emily Gold Piper RomperAbby Roxanne Midi Dress

From our sustainability focused, USA made brand MONTE we have two unique takes on summer gold. The Piper Jumpsuit is the perfect bright dandelion accented by white ditsy flowers - I am in love with the open back, subtle ruffle details on the pant hem and shoulder, and the light breezy fabric. The Roxanne Midi is a warmer, richer take on the hue. This marigold tone also pops against the white floral, and will shine just as brightly all summer with a sandal as it will transition into fall with a stacked-heel bootie.

Honey Dew Portobello Road Babydoll Midi DressCaramel Coco Lei Skirt

Spell has both bright and rich variations to our gold trend. We are loving the Honey Dew Portobello Road Dress for the peachy, sunny varieties of yellow mixed with soft summer pinks. This beauty is effortless with a sandal, but will transition with you into fall with a western inspired boot. Then, on sale, we have just one left of the Caramel Coco Lei Skirt and Blouse. This set is intricate and show stopping - we love the metallic gold lurex woven throughout, the Hawaiian inspired floral print, and the sandy caramel hues. This set can be worn together for a full golden look, or split up for an entirely different take (we love the blouse with denim, and the skirt with a bodysuit or open knit and heeled bootie for when the weather cools down).

Sunshine Yellow Sweet TopSandy Stripe Harper Trousers

I am loving the lemony vibes from Merritt Charles's Sunshine Yellow Sweet Top. This shade is the perfect bright yellow - it is far from highlighter brightness, but has a light citrus hue that pops perfectly against white and feels like a summery lemonade treat. The fabric is a soft tencel twill we love paired with soft light denim. On the other side of the yellow spectrum, we have the Sandy Stripe Harper Trousers. I adore the light tan of this pant - even though they have that golden undertone, they function as a neutral that will pair back with just about any top you have in your wardrobe. The stripe adds just a touch of interest, and the elastic waist and hip pockets give you all the function you need!

    Gold Gauze Capricorn Tunic

Paradise Morning Light Coconut KaftanParadise After Dark Shiva Midi Dress

From Jen's Pirate Booty we have a classic bright gold Capricorn Tunic. I love this gauzy piece thrown over a bikini, or even paired with a pair of light denim shorts. The next two dresses are a subtler take on summer gold - if you are shy to yellow hues, you can play on this trend by wearing a print or floral with just hints of gold popping through. In both the Paradise Morning Light and Paradise After Dark prints, rich mustard shades are woven into the florals, shining through without being the dominant hue in the print. I am obsessed with the tropical feel to these florals, and the richness of both the light and dark variation. Each dress is made of a semi-sheer fabric that is so light and perfect for summer. The Coconut Kaftan is my choice for a coverup - she is a somewhat transparent, so your suit will just barely shine through, perfect for a poolside lunch or post-beach cocktail. You could also pair her with a bodysuit or slip to wear her beyond vacay! The Shiva Midi Dress is made of the same floaty fabric, but she has a double layer so she is not see-through at all! This means she's ready to go for summer soires, cocktails on the lawn at Castle Hill, and will even transition into fall with a boot and vegan leather jacket. The movement of this dress is one of her best assets - we adore how the double side slits show off your sunkissed legs as you walk!

Sunwashed colors, bronzed hues, and liquid golds all call to mind images of sandy beaches, citrusy cocktails, and sundrenched summer days, so it seems fitting to me that gold would be the color of this summer! Whether you like sticking to the taupey muted versions, gravitate toward the richer mustards and caramels, or you are ready to dive right into the bright peach and lemon tones, there is a way for you to take this trend and run with it! For summer looks, I am loving to pair golds with other beachy colors - pops of water-inspired aqua, green, or blue. But one of the best parts about this trend is that it is not solely for summer - while we are all about living in the moment right now and don't even want to think about fall yet, we do love to know that you will get months of wear out of these pieces because so many will transition from endless summer with your sandals to autumn effortlessly by swapping out a boot and adding a knit or jacket.
